How to make RESISTANCE your friend.

FEB 24, 2015 | PERSONAL GROWTH

I’ve heard from different mentors that choosing a “theme” for each year can be helpful in staying laser focused on where you are heading, so I decided to take head this year and IMPLEMENT.

With a new baby on the way (any day now) making us a 4 person household, operating 2 businesses out of the home, juggling other social activities and our growing team…it was high time to LEAN DOWN.

So, in an effort to hold myself accountable to this MANTRA, I have created a community filled with others that equally would like to go LEAN this year.  I have to say, it’s amazing what happens when you bring COMMUNITY together toward one common purpose.  Many have become inspired to purge old items, organize file folders, get rid of the old to make room for the FRESH and New!

To get you up to speed, here are the 6 tips we have come up with together:

Tip #1

Remove Yourself from ALL Facebook Groups that you are NOT currently active in, or that don’t align with your purpose.  It can be frustrating as Facebook doesn’t require you to approve what groups you are added to, so every time you get added, you are subject to seeing the group posts “pop-up” in your newsfeed unwarranted.  So, take 15-20 minutes to remove yourself entirely and you will feel great!  I know I do.

Tip #2

GO Lean in the area of your calendar. My business coach recommended I get a 15min increment daily as well as a “month at a glance” calendar. Last year I worked with 2, PLUS my google calendar…it got confusing! This year I found this combo calendar/scheduler in 1! It also has the spirals which I like. Pick it up at office max! If it’s not scheduled, it doesn’t happen:)

Tip #3

Unsubscribe. Clean out your email inbox by unsubscribing from unused/unwanted email subscriptions! If you really want that coupon, google it before you go. If you are into personal development, choose one or two mentors to follow this year and master their principals vs. being all over the board with being on multiple lists.  I would say I unsubscribe from emails about 2 times a year. Time for more cleanup!!

Tip #4

Turn off ALL notifications on your phone. Instead of being “reactive” to every notification, (Facebook, emails, messages…etc) set aside time to log in for 20 minutes of focused time to go through your messages. If we are constantly reacting to beeps and notifications popping up, it is impossible to be “proactive” and intentional with our time and goals. Take charge of your attention!

Tip #5

Create your “SUCCESS LIST” separate from your TO-DO list.

I’ve been gaining some insight from the book “The One Thing” by Gary Keller. Some are great reminders, some new revelations. If you are anything like me, you have an on-going to-do list. I’m constantly crossing things off, transferring old lists to new ones and it just seems like this RUN-ON to-do of a life. The book suggests creating a Success List. Your Success List should consist of ONLY things that generate results in the direction you are heading.

In our business (and in many), seeking out prospective new clients and/or partners is what builds our business. So if I were to choose the most important thing on my daily success list, it would be setting a goal to reach out to X amount of people, show X presentations/day…etc. Hopefully you get the idea.

So decide what goes on your Success List and work on the things that MATTER MOST.

Some quotes I picked up that should be helpful:

“Success is doing the RIGHT things, not doing everything right.”
“To do 2 things at once is to do neither.” -Publilius Syrus
“Multi-Tasking is merely the opportunity to screw up more than one thing at a time.” -Steve Uzzell

So keep it simple and focus on the 1 or 2 things that matter the most.

Tip #6

Do your most important work -your ONE thing- early, before your willpower for the day is worn down. Since your self-control will be zapped throughout the day, use it when it’s at it’s full strength on what matters MOST. (From the book “The ONE Thing”)

Thanks to everyone in our private group for contributing daily to the cause of going LEAN.  Life can get busy and it’s our job to manage the time we have to make the greatest impact on others, along with our hopes and dreams.

We are just getting started, so if you would like to join our private group, you can request by clicking the link below:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/593107734075748/

In going lean together,

Molly
